They are suitable for processing brittle plastic materials like PS foam and some composites. Impact shredders offer high shredding efficiency, quickly reducing large chunks into fine particles.

2. Granulators

Granulators are designed to further process shredded plastic into uniform-sized granules, facilitating storage, transportation, and reuse. Granulators are typically divided into single-screw granulators and twin-screw granulators.

  • Single-Screw Granulators: Use a rotating screw to melt, mix, and extrude plastic into strands, which are then cut into granules by a pelletizer. This type of granulator is suitable for processing relatively simple and homogeneous plastics such as PP and PE. Single-screw granulators are simple in structure, easy to operate, and suitable for small and medium-sized recycling enterprises.
  • Twin-Screw Granulators: Feature two intermeshing screws that provide stronger mixing and melting capabilities, making them suitable for processing composite materials and plastics with multiple additives such as fillers and functional plastics. Twin-screw granulators can efficiently handle complex material formulations, making them ideal for large recycling enterprises.

3. Extruders

Extruders are used in plastic recycling to melt and extrude recycled plastic into specific shapes of semi-finished or finished products such as plastic pipes, sheets, and films. Extruders can be categorized into single-screw extruders and twin-screw extruders based on their structure and function.

  • Single-Screw Extruders: Simple in structure, suitable for processing homogeneous plastics and manufacturing relatively simple products such as plastic pipes and sheets. Single-screw extruders are easy to operate and cost-effective, making them a preferred choice for many recycling enterprises.
  • Twin-Screw Extruders: Offer stronger mixing and plastification capabilities, suitable for processing composite materials and high-performance plastics. They can be used to manufacture complex products such as multilayer films and composite material sheets. Twin-screw extruders enable efficient production and uniform material mixing, making them essential for producing high-end plastic products.

4. Pelletizers

Pelletizers are used to directly process crushed plastic into small pellets or granules for further processing or direct use. Pelletizers typically include cold-cut pelletizers and hot-cut pelletizers.

  • Cold-Cut Pelletizers: Cool the extruded plastic strands in a water bath before cutting them into granules, suitable for most common plastic materials. Cold-cut pelletizers are simple to operate and suitable for handling plastics that are not sensitive to temperature.
  • Hot-Cut Pelletizers: Cut the extruded plastic strands into granules while they are still hot, suitable for processing plastics that tend to become brittle after cooling, such as some high molecular weight plastics. Hot-cut pelletizers can quickly process high-temperature plastics, increasing production efficiency.
